Ana had a home and a family who loved her, but when her parents both went into assisted living she found herself in trouble. A 12 year old black diabetic dog is not really in high demand, especially in the south where the shelters run full all the time. Ana was lucky enough to have a nearby rescue advocating for her, and when they reached out to us about this very good girl, we were happy to be able to help.
Although she was used to being an only dog, Ana has adapted well to living in the big pack with cats and dogs of all sizes. She is house trained and walks well on leash, and enjoys exploring the neighborhood on nice days. She rides well in the car and does well meeting new people; she was even good for her vet exam! Ana is smart and picked up on her routine here very quickly- she will not let you forget to giver her her insulin shots, as she barks after meals and goes to her special blanket for her injections. We're not sure if she was crated in her old home, but her she likes to hang out in open crates during the day even though she could choose a bed instead. She seems to be crate trained too, although we don't usually have a need for her to be in one outside of meal times (we are monitoring her weight!)
We know Ana is not as fancy as some of the other dogs out there, but she sure is a good girl and she deserves a real home and a family who can love her for the rest of her life. She is easy to manage here but we know her true personality will really shine outside of the crazy rescue house.
