Charlie is a good boy. There's no better way to put it. He is sweet, gentle, and loving. He does his best with house training and has made a lot of progress despite being a late neuter with no previous training. He eats with the small dogs and does not steal their food. He loves a big hug and head scratches and kisses. He is tolerant of general handling and takes treats gently. He is sleepy and quiet, rarely barking but occasionally howling with the beagles. So why is Charlie here?
Charlie is a broken boy. He has spondylosis in his spine which causes him to drag his back foot and struggle with mobility of that leg. We started him on pain medications, but he has never expressed any pain or discomfort and in general seems to be a very happy guy. He came to us missing a lot of hair on his body and face, which were greasy and itchy. We are treating him for skin infections and we'll all have to wait and see if this is a chronic issues for him. We don't know his history, but it's safe to say that he was neglected for a while before being dumped in the crowded kill shelter in Georgia.
Charlie is an easy foster. He gets along with everyone and is happy to meet new dogs when they arrive. He is great with new people, always gentle if a little derpy and unaware of his bulk. The cats were very interesting and exciting to him at first, and he gave his best efforts to chase them when they ran from him. But his slow body and slow brain kept anyone from being trampled- he had no intentions of chomping and the other dogs steered clear of his clumsy movements. There are a few small sassy dogs here who have challenged and charged him. Hard to say if Charlie noticed this, as he had no reaction whatsoever and lumbered on unphased. So while Charlie may seem like a tough sell, he's really just an easy guy who would fit into most any household. His temperament makes him a one in a million friend, so don't hesitate to apply for our sweet Charlie Bear. You will love him.
