Don't let the grumpy face fool you- Clyde is sweet and gentle despite all he's been through. This long fellow had a home once, and a mom who loved him but just couldn't afford to care for him. He was suffering from eye and ear infections and had a huge mass on his side. The mass ruptured, got infected, and animal control removed Clyde from his home. A stinky dog with a hole in his side was not safe in the Philly shelter, but luckily we have friends there and they asked us to help Clyde. And of course we did!
Clyde gets along just fine with dogs, cats, and new people. He is almost completely blind so he is nervous at first, but warms up with kind words and lots of petting. Unfortunately most of his time with us has been spent doing wound care (his cancerous ruptured mass was removed and Clyde is now cancer-free!), and treating his eye and ear infections, so we didn't get off to a great start of making him feel comfortable mentally. However, now that he is finally healing up we are making progress with earning Clyde's trust and letting him know his suffering is over. Although he gets around pretty well, Clyde does need help going outside and coming back in after going potty. He will need a patient family who is willing to work on his house training and give him daily eye medications to prevent dry eye (a common Shih Tzu issue.) Clyde will need a home without small children.
