If you love pit bulls, you'll love Doris. If you're new to the breed, let's talk! She may be a good fit for you. This girl is a very typical pit: goofy, sweet, gentle... but also a little hard-headed and quick to overstimulate. It seems that someone may have been unkind to Doris in the past: although she craves human attention, she is a little head shy and reluctant to be hugged or snuggled. But again, true to pitty nature, she is a resilient girl who is learning to trust.
Doris gets along well with other dogs, but the pack here is a little overwhelming at times. She'd do fine as an only dog or with someone savvy who can monitor her activity and energy level. Her best friend here is a Beagle named Bubba, but in general she seems a little better with the smaller, lazier dogs or rowdy pups who don't overstimulate. Cats seem to be a new concept to her- she is very fearful and avoids them if possible, so we're not sure how she'd react to a cat running away or giving her a swat. She enjoys meeting new people and would love to live with older, considerate children. Doris was a late spay, and we suspect that's what is causing her to mark in her foster home (we have four intact/late-neuter males here, plus a neighbor's dog in heat... someone send help). Outside of this hormone stew she would likely have better success with house training. Doris is quiet and corrects well. She likes to chew but doesn't chomp anything but her toys. She does well in the car and would benefit from some leash training. Even in the chaos of this tough pack, Doris makes her foster mom smile every day just by being herself. If you are looking for a friend to brighten your life, look no further than sweet lovely Doris.
