Shoresy sat in a crowded southern shelter, waiting for help that just never came. He had two hernias: an inguinal hernia which contained most of his intestines, and a perineal hernia which made bowel movements extremely difficult (if you need another reason to get your dog neutered, look up this condition which occurs primarily in intact male dogs). When we learned how long he had been suffering in the shelter with absolutely no interest, we asked to take him as soon as possible.

Our vet was unable to perform the complex repair, so Shoresy went to a specialist. After a 4 hour surgery, both of his hernias were repaired and he was neutered at last. There is a chance that the hernias could reoccur, but the surgeon feels that we are likely out of the woods and Shoresy can resume normal activity this winter. Of course, normal activity for Shoresy is mostly sleeping anyway! He does seem interested in going for walks and is very polite on leash, so his new family should be able to take short slow walks with him. Any family will do for this lovely boy: dogs, cats, kids, strangers- all are friends to Shoresy. He is gentle with the foster kittens and tolerant of (but not thrilled with) our young foster dog Kyle. Shoresy is house trained, rides well in the car, and takes treats gently. He has a nice houndy bark but only uses it when he's hungry. This is a truly fabulous dog, the kind who only comes around once in a while. Don't miss out on special Shoresy!
